F.A. Youth Cup

2nd Qualifying Round

Wednesfield 2 Rocester 5

Rocester's youth team eased into the third and final qualifying round of the F.A. Youth Cup with a fantastic 5-2 win at Wednesfield's Cottage Ground.

The young Romans will now face Rushden & Diamonds at Hillsfield in the week commencing 19th October after the Northamptonshire side beat Luton Town 2-0 on the same evening.

Matt Redshaw got Rocester off to a flyer at Wednesfield with two early goals to settle the nerves. The young striker opened the scoring after six minutes when he met Matt Walker's long free kick with a superb volley on the turn, and he slotted a second on fifteen minutes to double the advantage after breaking into the area.

Full back George Stack continued Rocester's fine start by adding number three in the 20th minute, prodding the ball home after a cleared corner had been played back into the area.

The home side pulled a goal back ten minutes before half time and then pushed an extra man up front to try and salvage something from the game, but Rocester took advantage of the extra space at the back and were always dangerous on the break.

Matt Walker headed against the bar and Redshaw was denied a hat-trick when his shot came back off the post, but Mike McCarron eventually found the net with a scrambled goal on 75 minutes to make it 4-1.

Although Wednesfield reduced the arrears ten minutes from time, Connor McGinley (left) rounded the scoring off in the final moments with a fine solo effort - bursting down the left and into the area before sending the ball past the home keeper.
