Staffordshire Senior League

Norton United Res 1 Rocester Res 2

The reserve team picked up their first league win for just over two months when they recorded a fine 2-1 win at Norton United on Wednesday evening.

Rocester created several chances during the first half before new signing Gary Beardsley put the Romans in front in the 38th minute.

Two minutes later Mark Orpe marked his return to action after an injury lay-off by adding a second to leave Rocester well in control at the break.

Mel Wilkinson pulled a goal back for Norton midway through the second half and they pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Rocester held on to deservedly take maximum points.

The win lifted Steve Swanwick's side up four places into twelfth, and will give the lads a timely boost after a tough run of fixtures had seen them drop down the table.

Amazingly eleven of the reserve team's fourteen fixtures (including cup ties) so far have been away from home, and they have met all the top sides during that time.
