Rocester Football Club - Staffordshire F.A. Senior Cup Winners 2008

After a fantastic night at Vale Park, www.RocesterFC.com caught up with some of the players to get their thoughts on the game and the night...

Steve Swanwick - "Absolutely over the moon, before the game I was hoping we would give a good account of ourselves but we were better than Kidsgrove in every department. We thoroughly deserved to win, every one of the players is a hero."

Carl Allen - "Unbelievable, awesome. It was a fantastic team performance from the word go. Three well-worked goals and three good finishes - this was a true Rocester performance, a proper all together performance, our mind set was bang on. I've been dreaming about lifting the cup for weeks, it's a great honour to lift it and a great honour to captain this team. It's been a great effort by all of my team mates. I thought the supporters were fantastic from the first whistle to the last, all the lads really appreciated it."

David Price (Chairman) - "From where we were as a club in January, who would have thought we would be standing in the players lounge at Port Vale's ground with the Senior Cup - the most prestigious trophy in Staffordshire. I'm very proud of the managers, the players and the fans."

Tommy Smith - "It's brilliant, unbelievable." On his goal... "It just came to me, I took a touch and just hit it and it went in the bottom corner."

Martin Heath - on his goal... "I gambled, normally I'm not allowed to go in there but I've had a feeling all week that I would score. I'm happy to get a goal but the win was the important thing. As a team we were excellent, the defence was awesome."

Dave Shaw - on his goal... "The corner came in, I hung back a little bit and then just got my head to it and it hit the back of the net. Awesome."

Martin Gadsby - "We worked so hard, Martin Heath was superb, he's a dream to play alongside and he deserved his goal. Our team spirit is second to none, I never doubted that we would win."

Des Wilson (Goalkeeping Coach) - "After Saturday's match at Westfields I spoke with Dean (Latham) and told him to forget the six goals and go in to this match with a fresh mind. We worked on the same things that we've worked on all season in training and it paid dividends."

Dean Latham - "Absolutely awesome, it was our performance of the season. For me personally, a clean sheet and a couple of decent saves made the night. The atmosphere was fantastic, we all loved it out there."

Martin Meylan - "That was probably the best game I've seen all season, a totally committed performance and a thoroughly deserved win."

Mark Hodson - "It was alright, not bad! The pitch was too big but a great result, we hammered them in the end."

Dan Smith - "That was quality, a great night. Maybe they underestimated us, but everyone played really well."

Ben Henderson - "Quality night, fantastic performance."

Ashley Sheridan - "I'm absolutely knackered, the pitch was massive!"

Simon Purchase - "It was cold on the bench!"

Wardy - "Rocester til I die - as a supporter!"
