Shawn Salmon (D.O.B. March 1988)

Signed in August 2009, striker Shawn scored four goals in 17 appearances before leaving three months later to join Highgate United.

 

 

 

 

Karl Smith (D.O.B. June 1986)

Karl was with Rocester on and off between 2004 and 2009, playing mainly in goal for the reserve team. He made just four first team appearances, but always acquitted himself well whenever  he was called upon.

 

Tobias Salmon (D.O.B. February 1984)

Elder brother of Shawn, Tobias's spell at Hillsfield began in September 2009 and lasted just two months. He scored four goals in 10 appearances for the club.

 

 

 

Mick Smith

David Shaw (D.O.B. October 1977)

Striker who represented most of the clubs in and around the Potteries before joining Rocester from Leek Town in November 2006. He rejoined Kidsgrove Athletic in June 2008 before a brief second spell back at Hillsield. A fans favourite, his 92 appearances produced 53 goals - including the opener in the 2008 Staffs Senior Cup Final win over Kidsgrove Athletic at Vale Park.

 

Tommy Smith (D.O.B. March 1987)

Tenacious and hard-working striker who was a product of the reserve team. Tommy made his debut during the 2004-05 season but an 18-month injury lay-off restricted his progress. He helped Rocester win the Staffordshire Senior Cup in 2008 before starting the 2008-09 season with Leek Town. He had a second spell with the Romans between October 2008 and May 2009.

Kevin Sheldon (D.O.B.   /  /  )

A diminutive right-winger who played League football for Crewe Alexandra, Port Vale, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic during the 1970s and early 1980s. Known as 'Bomber', Kevin played a handful of games for Rocester after his Football League career had been cut short through injury. He briefly joined the coaching staff in October 2008.

 

Liam Sowter (D.O.B. September 1988)

An attacking midfielder who signed for Rocester in July 2007 from Burton Albion. Liam spent three years on the books of Derby County before joining Burton for a season. A member of the 2008 Staffordshire Senior Cup winning team, he moved to Mickleover Sports in January 2009 having scored four goals in his 46 appearances. He took his appearances up to 48 after returning on loan in April 2010.

Ashley Sheridan (D.O.B. October 1979)

Left-sided player signed in August 2007 from Stafford Town, where he had played for over four years. Stone Dominoes and Biddulph Victoria were also among his former clubs. A match-winner on his day, creative with an excellent touch and an eye for goal. Played a major role in Rocester's 2008 Staffordshire Senior Cup win. Scored 18 goals in his 83 appearances, the last of which came in December 2009.

  Jack Stubbs

George Shepherd

George became the first Rocester player to appear in the Football League when he played for Derby County against Burnley at the Baseball Ground on 21st February 1920. He was an inside-left who was described in the local press at the time as being "young, very speedy, has good control over the ball and is not at all a bad shot."

 

Charlie Swanwick

Father of Peter. Charlie was a prolific goalscorer for Rocester in the early 1930s when the club played in the Leek & Moorland League. He scored well over 50 goals in two seasons before moving on to play for a number of other local clubs. Charlie was called up to play for Stoke City in the late 1940s before playing his final Rocester games during the 1953-54 season.

Alan Smith

 

Peter Swanwick (D.O.B. December 1945)

Son of Charlie. Legendary goalkeeper who rarely missed a match in 20 years between the sticks covering the mid-1960s through to the mid 1980s. Peter was a  loyal club man who helped Rocester win a number of honours including the Staffordshire County League Division One title in 1971. He also excelled at cricket, representing Staffordshire as wicketkeeper for four years.

Danny Smith (D.O.B. October 1986)

Talented right-back who was on Stoke City's books before moving into non-league football with Leek Town. Dan joined Rocester from Nantwich Town in September 2007, and in his only season at Hillsfield he picked up a Staffs Senior Cup winners medal and won both the Players Player and Supporters Player of the Season awards. He left to join Kidsgrove Athletic in June 2008.

 

Steve Swanwick

Grandson of Charlie, Nephew of Peter. Steve continued a family tradition of involvement with Rocester Football Club when he was appointed reserve team manager in May 2006. He stepped up to take over the first team in February 2008 and led the side to victory in the Staffordshire Senior Cup Final against Kidsgrove Athletic barely 10 weeks into the job.
