Stoke City U13’s v Rocester Elkes Eagles U13’s

Rocester Elkes Eagles met Stoke City U13 Academy in a pre-season friendly at the Michelin Training ground on Monday evening for the 3rd year in succession.

The game was one of several friendlies which also saw the U15’s play Stoke City at the Michelin Training ground while the U12’s & U14’s played Stoke City at home.

The U13’s started well and applied great pressure until Stoke had their first shot on the Rocester goal after 8 minutes, which luckily hit the crossbar.

After 15 minutes Rocester had a similar shot at the Stoke goal pass over their crossbar and after the first 20 minute session, Rocester were looking good with the score nil-nil.

In the second 20 minutes, Rocester were caught sleeping and conceded the first goal of the game after only 9 seconds of play after a poor clearance landed at the feet of a Stoke striker and was fired into the back of the net.

Minutes later, the Rocester defence lost possession and allowed Stoke to go one v one with the Rocester keeper and score their second goal of the game.

Rocester did recover from this and started to play football again until with 5 minutes of the second 20 minutes remaining, Rocester conceded a third goal from a corner after leaving a player unmarked to flick the ball into the net with the side of his foot.

The remaining 20 minutes of the game was played as two 10 minute halves by a Stoke City side with ample substitutes against a weary Rocester side with a bare eleven players.

Within minutes of the first half starting, Rocester’s left back picked up an injury and was switched with the Rocester keeper, Chris Redshaw for the remainder of the first 10 minute half, however with one minute remaining, Stoke scored their fourth goal of the game from another poor clearance.

In the final 10 minutes, Rocester played with 10 men and struggled to defend against a fresh Stoke City 11 conceding a further 3 goals to give a fulltime score of Stoke City 7 – Rocester Elkes Eagles 0.

Despite the result, the Rocester Elkes Eagles players produced some good football and can be proud of their efforts against a superior side.

The Rocester Elkes Eagles Team comprised :- Chris Redshaw, Jon Lee, Jack Wain, Gavin Hall, Adam Smith, Joe Ring, Olly George, George Pauley, Reece Brown, James Hornsey & Steve Whitehall.
