Under 13s - Burton Junior Football League
Trent Trophies Division One Knockout Cup Semi Final.
Rolleston 0 Rocester Elkes Eagles 4
Rocester Elkes Eagles U13’s played Rolleston U13’s in the BJFL Knockout Cup Semi-Final away at Willington Sports and social on Sunday.
When the two sides met in the league earlier in the season Rocester managed to secure a commanding 8-1 win, however the chances of another such win seemed unlikely with a number of players missing or carrying injuries. So Rocester we went into the game hoping that the result would not be a repeat of two seasons ago when Rolleston knocked Rocester out of the cup in the Quarter Finals.
Rocester mad a good start to the game and managed to retain most of the possession without creating too many chances, and we continued to press forward despite playing against the wind.
Rolleston rarely troubled the Eagles until our keeper Adam Smith injured his groin and had to be replaced by Gavin Hall, who put in a fantastic performance in goal until half time.
The breakthrough came just before half time when a ball passed into the six-yard box was volleyed into goal by Reece Brown to give Rocester the lead at half time.
In the second half Rocester continued to press and tried to play the ball on the ground, creating more chances as a result.
The game continued with Rocester having the upper hand for most of the play but Rolleston looked dangerous at times when they managed to catch Rocester on the break.
Fifteen minutes into the second half George Pauley scored a second goal for Rocester and this was quickly followed by a third goal when Marco Peach pushed up on the left to to score at the far post from a corner kick.
Rocester remained in command of the game and with around 10 minutes remaining another ball picked up within the 18-yard box was volleyed into the net by Niall Dawkins to give Rocester their fourth goal of the game and Niall his first goal for the club.
Man of the Match was Adam Smith who gritted his teeth and managed to make it back into goal for the second half.
We can now look forward to the final which will be played against David Hunt Soccer School in May.
