Sunday 24th September 2007
Rocester Elkes Eagles (REE) travelled to Moira on Sunday for their 2nd Friel Homes Div 1 game of the season, to play newly promoted Moira United Youth (MUY).
The game was played on a small pitch with a fierce wind blowing from end to end.
REE kicked off against the wind and went one up after only three minutes when, following Matt Redshaw's cut-back, Bradley Price finished well with a shot from the edge of the area.
REE went two up on 13 minutes when Redshaw finished a move which started with Greg Fearn's marauding run out of defence, but MUY then equalled things up with two quick goals, on 19 mins with a deflected shot, and on 21 minutes when a cross went in over Jessup's head.
REE went back into the lead on 24 minutes, again through Redshaw, who finished well after Aden Johnson's corner was headed on by Price.
MUY equalised again on 32 with an own goal by Matt Sanders, who hit the ball over the line whilst trying to clear a goal bound effort.
Then MUY went 4-3 ahead with a free kick that sailed high into the net on 38.
REE immediately went up field and equalised again on 39, through Matt Redshaw, who completed his hat-trick in fine style.
Following some strong words at Half Time, REE came out in the second half more determined not to gift their opponents anymore goals.
Redshaw netted his fourth by flicking the ball over the advancing keeper with the outside of his left foot to put the Eagles 5-4 ahead.
Price made it 6-4 on 67 minutes with a fine left foot shot from the edge of the area, again from Redshaw's pull back, after Fearn's effort had hit the crossbar.
Goal number 7 came on 71 minutes when an excellent solo run by Jeremy Redlar was finished by the same player.
Sean Dunion made it 8-4 on 77 minutes when he finished well from close range, and Greg Fearn completed the scoring on 79 minutes when his flighted free kick evaded everybody and went in at the far post.
Line-up: Jessup, Parsons, Sanders, Fearn, Sucksmith, Dunion, Price, Coley-Fisher, Johnson, Redshaw, Redlar, Freeman, Mills.
Moira United Youth 4 Rocester Elkes Eagles 9
In the end a satisfying result for the Eagles. They must learn however not to gift goals if they are to have another successful season.
Next week REE are at home to last seasons cup winners, Winshill Gold. Kick Off 10:30 at Abbotsholme school.
