Sunday 3rd February 2008 Under 15s - Burton Junior Football League - Friel Homes Division One. Moira United Woulds 1 Rocester Elkes Eagles 1 Eagles travelled to Moira on Sunday morning for a top of the table clash against Moira United Woulds. Moira have been league champions for the previous two season and are currently level at the top of the table this season with Eagles. The swirling wind that greeted the players threatened to play a major part in the final result.
Eagles, having a game plan to contain their
counterparts, started with only Matt Redshaw up front knowing that victory
was more essential to Moira. Eagles themselves failed to
carve out any real chances during the opening quarter. For the remainder of the
half neither side created any clear chances. Moira eventually equalised
after 57 minutes when their centre forward turned well on the edge of the
box and, despite being under pressure from Greg Fearn, managed to get his
shot in and the ball found the bottom corner of the Eagles net. Eagles should have scored
right at the death, however Ross Bentley took one touch too many when a
first time shot from ten yards may have been a better decision.
As already mentioned, Eagles went to Moira
with a game plan to contain the opposition, and to hit on the break. This
plan worked as Eagles discipline was very evident. This along with the
effort attained by the players shows that their normal attacking game can be
changed to suit the opposition. Well Done lads. |
