Under 15s - Burton Junior Football League - Friel Homes Division One.

Winshill Gold 1 Rocester Elkes Eagles 1

Rocester Elkes Eagles travelled to Winshill on Sunday lunchtime to play a dogged Winshill Gold team.

REE started the game strongly and should have been two goals up by the second minute after two excellent chances fell to Jez Redlar.

Within 20 seconds of the match starting, Jez blasted the first of them over the bar when he had just the goalkeeper to beat, and barely a minute late he again failed to beat the keeper.

Chances continued to come for Eagles, however poor finishing kept the scores level.

Winshill, to their credit, kept plugging away and were fairly dangerous on the break. With the scores level after twenty minutes and with numerous chances being missed, Winshill took the lead from one of their breakaways. The ball broke down the right and was turned in by the advancing midfield player after the ball was crossed in, a fine finish.

REE continued to try and get into the game and should have done when Sean Dunion hit his volley from three yards into the keeper's hands.

HT 1 : 0

Eagles reverted to a back three early in the second half, a decision that gave them some much needed momentum.

Winshill were still looking very dangerous on the break, although Jessup in goal hardly had any saves to make.

Matt Redshaw levelled things after sixty minutes when he latched onto Michael McCarron's long pass, and at that stage it looked as though there was only going to be one winner as the Eagles got on top.

Winshill had other ideas though, and defended stubbornly.

REE should have snatched a winner with a couple of minutes left when McCarron's hanging free kick was just missed by Dunion with only the keeper to beat.

FT 1 : 1

REE maintain their unbeaten run, however this result allows others in the league to get back into contention for the title. Eagles players know that chances must be converted if they are to win this title for the first time. The pleasing thing for the managers however is that chances are still being created and goals are not being leaked.

Team: Jessup; Jones; McCarron; Fearn; Mills; Redlar; Price; Coley-Fisher; Johnson; Redshaw; Dunion; Subs(used) Greaves; Bentley; Handforth; (not used) Sucksmith.

Eagles return to Staffordshire Cup action on Sunday 6th January 2008, with a last 16 tie, at home to Bilbrook Juniors, of the Walsall Youth League, Division One. Kick off 14:00 at Abbotsholme school.
