Under 15s - Staffordshire F.A. Youth Sunday Cup 3rd Round.
F.C. Premier Colts 1 Rocester Elkes Eagles 4 (A.E.T.)
REE travelled to Witton in Birmingham on a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon to play Walsall Premier League side F.C. Premier Colts in Round 3 of the U15's Staffs County Youth Cup, and returned, in the end, worthy winners.
The game started with REE seemingly a little intimidated by their opponents, who's direct style put the Eagles on the back foot for the first ten minutes.
As the game wore on Eagles came more into the game although they didn't really carve out too many chances. The best opening fell to Jez Redlar, who forced a marvellous one handed save from the Colts' keeper after a mazy run.
Just before the break the home side took the lead when a corner fell invitingly to a Colts player after a scramble.
Jessup in the Eagles goal then made a brave save to keep his team in the game, diving at the centre-forward's feet.
HT 1 : 0
After a harsh half time talk Eagles started the second half in better form than the first, however they still struggled to get the elusive equaliser.
The formation was changed to a back three as REE played a large amount of the second period in the Colts half, and with 15 minutes to go Michael McCarron scored a deserved equaliser with an overhead kick following a corner.
From this point there was only going to be one winner, but a second goal was still proving difficult to get while Premier Colts relied on breakaways.
FT 1 : 1
REE continued to attack at the start of extra time and went ahead after four minutes when Redlar ran through, pushing the ball past the advancing keeper.
Two minutes later Sean Dunion scored number three when the ball fell to him in the area, and Matt Redshaw continued his goal a game ratio when he scored a fourth with four minutes remaining.
FT (AET) 1 : 4
This result leaves REE in the last sixteen of the competition, with a home tie to be played on 6th January 2008, against either Willenhall Town or Bilbrook Juniors.
Team: Jessup; Jones; McCarron; Sanders; Fearn; Redlar; Coley-Fisher; Price; Johnson; Redshaw; Dunion: Subs( all used) Mills; Sucksmith; Handforth.
The Eagles have a friendly match against Port Vale on Thursday evening at Hillsfield, kick off 7pm, before returning to league action with an away trip to face Winshill Gold on Sunday, kick off at noon.
