Under 13s - Burton Junior Football League - Trent Trophies Division One.

Newhall Lions 0 Rocester Elkes Eagles 8

Rocester Elkes Eagles U13's played Newhall Lions U13's for the 2nd time this season in the BJFL Division 1 away on Sunday.

The afternoon game took place in torrential conditions including heavy rain and temperatures below 4 degrees, which chilled the lads to the core and really tested their spirit and determination.

However, the team all worked hard and put on a fabulous display of football in what turned out to be their fourth win in succession.

Rocester started the first half kicking down the sloping pitch. Reece Brown opened the scoring after only 3 minutes and that was followed by a second goal from Joe Ring to give Rocester a 2-0 lead at half time.

In the 2nd half, despite playing up-hill and with the conditions becoming worse, Rocester stepped up a gear and managed to score a further 6 goals with both Joe Ring and Reece Brown scoring 2 and Olly George & George Pauley scoring one each.

Rocester rotated the squad as much as possible to give all the team a chance to stay as warm as possible under the circumstances, but with 10 minutes of the game remaining none of the four available substitutes were able to continue and the 11 players on the pitch had to dig deep until the final whistle.

Despite the comprehensive 8-0 win, Rocester did have at least four lucky escapes where the Newhall strikers were allowed to break through the midfield and defence to get shots across goal. Thankfully, the shots were either cleared or went wide but the team do need to work on this area of the game to improve.

Man of the Match was Chris Redshaw who managed to stay in goal under such difficult conditions for the majority of the game despite loosing the feeling in his fingers.
