Under 8s BLUE  - Mid-Staffs Junior Football League

MATCH 1 - Rocester Elkes Eagles Blue 1 Eccleshall Eagles Yellow 1

On a blustery wet day, Rocester had a tough encounter with Eccleshall who had won 3-1 in the previous encounter.

Rocester started well with Corey McLaughlin and Will Hulme looking strong up front, and they were rewarded after just five minutes with an opening goal.

Following a Jonathan Duckworth corner, Will Hulme's shot was well saved and Corey McLaughlin placed the ball into the corner of the net.

An injury to Ed Farnley resulted in him having to be replaced by Josh Berry, and Gabriel Wild, making his debut in goal, did well to keep the score at 1-0 to the Eagles at half time.

The second half saw Daniel Clayton replacing Jonathan Duckworth, but Eccleshall scored just two minutes after the restart after Connor Beasley was left unmarked at the far post.

The game continued to bring chances for both teams but no more goals were scored.

Rocester were well matched by Eccleshall and I think a draw was a fair result in the end.

MATCH 2 - Rocester Elkes Eagles Blue 1 Rocester Elkes Eagles Red 0

Both our teams played each other and I must say what a vast improvement by the Red team, ably managed by the 'chuckle brothers' Paul Hassall and Paul Croft!

The Blues, however hard they tried, were well matched by the Red team with Matthew O'Farrell, Jamie Hartley and Jack Campion being strong in all challenges.

The second half saw Josh Berry scoring the only goal of the game from 15 yards.

A tough game for both teams, a draw would have been a fair reflection of the game although Morgan Harrison did hit the post in the first half. WELL DONE TO THE RED TEAM!!!

The team... Gabriel Wild; Ed Farnley; Harley Turner; Joshua Berry; Will Hulme; Jonathan Duckworth; Laurence Wootton; Daniel Clayton; Corey McLaughlin.

Player of the Week: Harley Turner - well done Harley!
