Under 9s - Mid-Staffs Junior Football League - Rydal Division One.
This was the first games of the UNDER 9'S SHIELD (RYDAL LEAGUE)
Our opponents for game one were Wheaton Aston Juniors.
The team were all in good spirits having just been given our new team rain jackets kindly sponsored by New Street Garage, and boy did we need them! Wind and rain on quite an open area is not a good combination to play football in at any age. However the team got off to a good start by beating Wheaton Aston by four goals to one (Sam Chilvers 2 Jack Green 1 Will Hepburn 1)
The Next game was going to be a much sterner test against Topps 2000, who by previous results were a stronger outfit.
We started the game well but a couple of basic mistakes gave them an early lead. Going behind gave us a difficult task and as conditions got worse we found ourselves 4-1 down.
But then a very determined passage of play got us back to 4-3 only for time to run out. (Jack Green 2 Sam Chilvers 1)
Again the team all played well and by their faces at the end - some red and some going blue with cold - all seemed to have enjoyed one win plus one defeat.
A mention to the young ref James Gregg who did a very good job in difficult conditions - thank you!
This Weeks man of the match goes to Sam Chilvers for his non stop commitment and a real captain’s performance.
Once again well done to all (even parents for putting up with the weather) and see you all Tuesdays 6pm Alleynes (astro-turf) Uttoxeter.
