Rocester Elkes Eagles 8 Edge Hill Blue 1
REE maintained their 100% start to the season with a fine victory over the only team that defeated them in the league last season. Although the scoreline suggests a thorough mauling, the result doesn't really tell the story of a fine football match.
The game started evenly with the two Edge Hill front men showing how lively they were and the Eagles took some time to settle, struggling with the early pace of the game.
Eagles took the lead on 8 minutes through Matt Redshaw, and doubled their lead 5 minutes later when Redshaw chased down a goal kick to deflect the ball home.
This helped Eagles settle and take more control of the game. Edge Hill were not out of it though and had a couple of chances to get back into the game, being thwarted on one occasion by a fine block from Jessup in goal.
Eagles went three ahead on 27 through Ross Bentley, who finished neatly after Redshaw had beat three men on the right.
On the stroke of half time Edge Hill were right back in the game, scoring after Jessup had parried and Joe Handforth had tried to clear on the line to no avail.
HT 3 : 1
Eagle expected Edge Hill to come right at them at the start of the second half, however within one minute of the restart they were 4-1 up when Bentley finished.
Five minutes later Jez Redlar put the game out of Edge Hills grasp with a precision finish, then four minutes later in the 50th minute Ross Bentley completed his hat-trick, finishing from close range to make it 6-1.
Numerous chances came and went for Eagles as they camped in the Edge Hill half. Redlar completed his hat-trick with goals in the 62nd and 80th minutes.
There was still time for Redshaw to be denied his hat-trick when what should have been his third goal was surprisingly ruled off-side when Redlar unselfishly pulled the ball back to him in injury time.
FT 8 : 1
Another fine performance from REE, takes them full of confidence into next weeks game away at Gresley Rovers. KO 14:00
